Məzahir Daşqın


Məzahir Daşqın was born in Borsunlu, a Tartar village and district in Azerbaijan in 1909. He began writing and playing drama since 1926. Fought since the first days of the invasion of Germany to the Soviet Union in 1941, he was captured in August 1942. Joined the Azerbaijan Legion, he wrote many poems in Legion’s newspapers, Azərbaycan and Hücum. Repatriated to the Soviet Union after the end of World War II, he was arrested in Borsunlu as "traitors" and imprisoned in Baku, before being exiled to Siberia and Gorky. In 1956, after being jailed for 10 years, he was released and returned to his native Azerbaijan. He died on October 31, 1979 and was buried in his hometown.
